Amos

The Social Responsibility Group of Christians Together in Jersey

"But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!"

Who are we?

One of the sections of Christians Together in Jersey. We look at social and political issues in Jersey in the light of the Christian gospel of good news for all.

Why Amos group?

We take our name from the Old Testament prophet Amos, who had a vision of a society where "justice flows on like a river and righteousness like a never-failing torrent" (Amos 5:24) (and it is less of a mouthful than "The Social Responsibility Committee of Christans Together in Jersey"!)

Who can come to the group?

Any member of CTJ. In practice we have members from the Catholic Church, Anglican Church, URC and Methodist Churches. Our minutes are circulated to a wider list, including the heads of all the denominations in Jersey. We have a regular core of about 10 members.

Where do we meet?

Monthly, except August, at the Pastoral centre, St. Mary & St. Peter¹s, Wellington Road. The next two meetings are on Wednesday 4th September 2002 and Wednesday 9th October 2002 at 5.45, ending by 7 p.m.

What happens?

We open with a short prayer, then look at current concerns, share information and experiences and may decide to write a letter expressing our views to the politician concerned or the media. We conclude by joining hands to say the Grace together.
